James Rodger
Biography
Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, James Rodger is the youngest of four children. Growing up, he participated in various team sports. Here, he learned the value of working together to accomplish goals, find solutions and is eager to help others thrive and succeed.
Having grown up, on the Fort William First Nation Ojibway Reserve, allows James Rodger to have the ability to understand the traditions and unique challenges many First Nations communities experience living in the world. Family is important to James, and thus, he continues to stay in touch with his roots as he raises his family. Family and traditions are essential in a changing world.
Driven by his Indigenous culture, James takes pride in providing the best advice and community solutions possible. Having a great appreciation for where he comes from, James understands how vital a community-based approach is and why it is key to having future success for many generations. James believes it is possible to bridge the past with the future and improve the quality of life for all at the same time.
James Rodger graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Justice and a two year Law and Security Diploma. Education being essential, James continues to hone and expand his skills and knowledge to serve others along the way better.
Since finishing school, James has worked for the federal government for over 14 years; he is considered a season public servant. Through his experience, James has the unique ability to guide and assist you through the bureaucracy and red tape which is sometimes encountered. As a community member himself, James recognizes the past and current struggles of the First Nations people. Therefore he has the unique ability to ease your fears and hesitation around dealings with all three levels of government.
James’s areas of expertise include Indian Status applications, First Nations Non-Insured Health Benefits, and Access to Information and Privacy. James has experience writing by-laws, election codes, a proclamation of inherent rights, and taxation codes.
James Rodger’s consulting goal is to provide First Nations Communities (Chief, Council and the band members) with the support, guidance, inspiration and tools to improve their overall quality of life.
James Rodger will work with Indigenous communities and organizations to help them achieve their objectives by offering support and counsel consistent with their values as Canadians and abroad nation-to-nation.
